The clearly visible serial number on this B-17 allows to identify it as a B-17G-50VE, serial 44-8110. This makes it an aircraft from block fifty from the Vega production line. Block 50 aircraft from Bega used the original tail turret and had the bulged cheek guns, and both features can be seen here. The lack of unit markings on the tail suggests that this aircraft had not yet been issued to a combat unit.
