Avenger Mk.I

The Avenger Mk.I was the British designation for the Grumman TBF-1 and Eastern TBM-1 from January 1944, replacing the earlier Tarpon I. It was powered by the 1,700hp Wright R-2600-8 and was armed with the .50in turret gun and the .30in gun in the cowling. The stinger gun may have been removed. A total of 402 aircraft were received and the type entered service with No.832 Squadron at NAS Norfolk, Virginia, before embarking on the Victorious to take part on the campaign in the Solomon Islands in the summer of 1943.
