Avenger Mk.II

The Avenger Mk.II was the British designation for the Grumman TBF-1C and Eastern TBM-1C from January 1944, replacing the earlier Tarpon II. It was armed with the 0.50in turret gun and the two 0.50in guns in the wings. It also had the modified radio antenna of the American aircraft, although hinged to allow it to fit into the hangers on the British armoured carriers. It differed from the American aircraft in retaining a second seat in the rear cockpit, with the navigator located just behind the pilot. A total of 334 Mk IIs were received, and along with the Mk I made up the bulk of operational Avengers in the Fleet Air Arm.
