Carro Veloce 29 Tankette/ CV.29

The Carro Veloce 29 Tankette (CV.29) was the designation given to an Italian version of the British Carden-Loyd Mk VI tankette (a two man tracked vehicle with an open crew compartment). Four of these vehicles were purchased from Britain in 1929 and taken to Italy. Either 21 or 25 vehicles were then constructed in Italy by Fiat and Ansaldo in 1929-30. The Italian vehicles were similar to the British original but with wider tracks and an Italian machine gun. They were powered by a Ford Model T engine and had armoured head covers for the driver and gunner and a shielding machine gun. The CV.29 could reach a top speed of 25mph and was effectively a machine gun carrier designed to accompany infantry. It was followed into production by the improved CV.33, later re-designated as the L 3-33 (3 ton light tank, 1933).
