The Douglas C-34 was the designation given to two military versions of the DC-2 purchased for use by the Secretary of War. They differed from the civilian aircraft only in having room for fourteen passengers instead of twelve, and in the use of military radio equipment. At first they were designated as YC-34s, indicating that they were service test aircraft, but they were soon redesignated as standard C-34s. The two C-34s were operated by the 1st Staff Squadron, based at Bolling Field, Washington D.C.
