Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) neuer Art Recon Tank

The TNH n.A. or Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) neuer Art (new model) was a reconnaissance tank based on the PzKpfw 38(t) that was produced in 1942 for German trials but that didn’t enter production.

The PzKpfw 38(t) n.A. had the same basic fuselage and suspension as the standard Pz.38(t), but with welded construction in place of the rivets of the normal tank and the road wheels mounted closer together. The main change was the adoption of a 240hp Praga V-8 engine which gave it a top speed of 38mph/ 62km/ hr, up from 26mph on the standard tank. It also had a new turret, although carried the same 3.7cm gun, and used German visors.

A total of fifteen were built during 1942, but the type didn’t enter production. Some features from the neuer Art were adopted for later vehicles based on the Pz.38(t) chassis.
