Semovente da 75/34

The Semovente da 75/34 was the second main entry in the series of self-propelled guns based on the M-13/ M-14/ M-15 series of Italian tanks and differed from the Semovente da 75/18 mainly by having a longer L/34 gun.

After developing the Semovente da 75/18 Ansaldo moved on to the Semovente da 75/32, but the Italian Army preferred the longer L/34 gun. This had a muzzle velocity of 1,722ft per second (compared to 1,411ft on the L/18) and an effective range of 9,514 yards (up from 8,748 yards).

The Semovente da 75/34 was accepted into service in the Italian Army on 29 April 1943. Ansaldo produced 61 Semovente de 75/34 based on the M 15-42 chassis and one based on the M 43 chassis before the Armistice in September 1943 and probably another 109 after the armistice. Most of these later vehicles were operated by the Germans.
