This picture shows the personnel of No.502 Squadron standing on and around one of their Handley Page Halifax bombers, almost certainly the GR Mk.III, the Coastal Command version of the first and most important Hercules powered version of the bomber.
Many thanks to Tony Rhodes-Marriott for sending us this picture. His father William Rhodes Marriott served with the Photo section of the squadron, and took this picture at Stornoway in May 1945. He also developed the photographs that located the Tirpitz in Norway.
