This interesting picture shows Consolidated B-24M Liberator 44-42252, with the 436th Bombardment Squadron, 7th Bombardment Group, after a crash on 11 July 1945, when the squadron was based at Tezpur, India. The aircraft was a B-24M-25-CO, indicating that it was from Batch 25 at Consolidated's San-Diego factory.
Note that the tail number 66 is reversed compared to the writing on the image, suggesting either that the original picture was developed the wrong way round (left-right) before the notes were added, or the notes were scratched onto the wrong side of the negative before it was developed. The aircraft was damaged in a landing accident and was written off, but all of the crew survived.
Many thanks to Eliana Coffidis, whose grandfather John C Coffidis was the USAAF photographer who took the original picture.
