F-5L Flying Boat over USS Arkansas (BB-33)
Here we see a F-5L Flying Boat passing over the Wyoming class battleship USS Arkansas (BB-33) during naval torpedo exercises in the early 1920s. The F-5L was an American-built version of the Felixstowe F-5 Flying Boat, which was itself an improved version of a Curtiss design. In this view we can see the large rectangular tail, and the straight trailing edge of the ailerons that help tell it apart from the Curtiss models, which had curved trailing edges.
