USS Bataan (CVL-29), Philadelphia, 1944, from the front
Here we see the Independence class light fleet carrier USS Bataan (CVL-29) off the Philadelphia Navy Yard on 2 March 1944, with a number of Grumman TBF Avengers parked on her flight deck. Note the original cruiser bow still visible, now carrying anti-aircraft guns.
