Aft 8in Gun, USS Charleston (C-2)
Here we see the gun crew of the aft 8in gun on the protected cruiser USS Charleston (C-2) exercising with their gun c.1891-93, soon after the original pair of 6in guns had been replaced with the 8in guns. We get a good view of the unusual gun position, with a low armoured shield around the barbetter and a partial shield protecting parts of the gun.
