Gundeck of USS Chicago (1885), c.1890
Here we see a view from 1890 along the gun deck of the protected cruiser USS Chicago (1885), with her 6in broadside guns seen in the background, and cutlass and rifle racks on the left. This view isn't that different to the gundeck of an earlier sailing ship, although these guns were far more powerful than anything carried on those ships.
