Figurehead of USS Detroit (C-10), c.1902
Here we see the figurehead installed on the Montgomery class unprotected cruiser USS Detroit (C-10) in c.1902, replacing the original figurehead which had a long flat curved top. This change makes it possible to date most pictures of the Detroit to before or after c.1902.
