Anti-aircraft training, USS Georgia (BB-15), 1918
Here we see the crew of the Virginia class battleship USS Georgia (BB-15) learning how to fire at aircraft at some point in 1918. For much of the year the Georgia was used to train merchant ship crews in gunnery. This sort of fire wouldn't have been effective against later aircraft, but the open cockpits of most aircraft of 1918 did mean there was at least a chance of a lucky shot hitting the pilot.
