DASH in free flight above USS Hazelwood (DD-531)
Here we see a Gyrodyne QH-50 DASH (Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter) in free flight above its flight deck on the Fletcher class destroyer USS Hazelwood (DD-531). Below the DASH you can make out an orange painted homing torpedo. The Hazelwood was used in the development of the DASH system, and over 1,000 take off and landings were conducted from her.
