Here we see some of the damage done to the decks of the Indiana class battleship USS Indiana (BB-1) during bombing tests on the hull in the early 1920s. Dummy bombs were dropped on her, and explosive charges later set off at the point where the bombs hit. Even though the Indiana did actually sink during these tests, the Navy's official conclusion was that they proved this wasn't possible...
