Midship Section of USS Kearsarge (BB-5)
Here we see the plan of a section across the midships of the Kearsarge class battleship USS Kearsarge (BB-5), at the level of the armoured conning tower. At the very top we see the bridge, with the first of the steering wheels. Directly below is the armoured conning tower with the second steering wheel. An armoured column connects the two steering wheels to the machinery below, which fills two decks. On the rightwe see one of the 5in/40 guns, with an 18in torpedo room below it.
