USS Kearsarge (BB-5) as Crane Ship No.1 testing crane
Here we see the massive 250 ton capacity revolving crane that has been installed on the old Kearsarge class battleship USS Kearsarge (BB-5) in 1920 being tested at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on 27 October 1922. At this early stage in her new career the new superstructure is clearly gleaming and clean - later pictures will show a rather less glossy finish!
