USS Marblehead (C-11) stripped for battle, Guantanamo Bay
Here we see the Montgomery class unprotected cruiser USS Marblehead (C-11) stropped for battle at Guantanamo Bay in June-July 1898 during the Spanish-American War. Most notable is the removal of her elaborate figurehead. The Marblehead played a major role in the US capture of Guantanamo Bay, which has famously remained a US Naval Base to this day.
