Here we see the armoured cruiser USS Memphis (ACR-10) driven ashore off Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic on 29 August 1916. The Memphis was a total loss. Until a few months earlier she had been the Tennessee but she had been renamed to free that name up for a battleship.
