USS Texas (1892) from the left
Here we see USS Texas (1892), the first American battleship, from the left. The Texas carried her main guns in wing turrets, and here we can see the port turret, and the bulge in the side of the hull needed to carry it. The two medium sized bulges fore and aft carried two of her six 6in guns and the smaller gun ports some of her 6-pounders. Note the elaborate decoration around the bows.
