USS Virginia (BB-13) sunk as bombing target, 1923
Here we see the Virginia Class battleship USS Virginia (BB-13) sinking after she was used as a target for bombing tests on 5 September 1923. She was hit by two 1,000lb bombs which damaged the bridge, all three funnels and both cage masts. However it was the two near misses that sank her, causing underwater damage that saw her capsize after only 20 minutes.
