'Evans of the Broke'

'Evans of the Broke'
Captain Edward Evans was a pre-war polar explorer who became famous for his exploits on the destroyer HMS Broke during the First World War, in particular a clash with a larger force of German destroyers on 20 April 1917 (Battle of the Dover Strait), where he rammed one of the German destroyers, leading to a rare example of melee combat on the decks of the Broke. His naval career continued to flourish, and he eventually retired as a full Admiral, and 1st Baron Mountevans.
