HMNZS Achilles after 1943-44 refit
Here we see the Leander class light cruiser HMNZS Achilles, famous for her role in the battle of the River Plate, after a refit that lasted from April 1943 to May 1944. During the refit her damaged X turret was replaced with two QF 2-pounder pom-poms (thus explaining why only one turret can be seen at her rear), and her original four 4in anti-aircraft guns were replaced with more eight modern QF 4 inch Mk XVI guns in twin mounts.
