Here we see the commanding officer of the Ruler Class escort carrier HMS Empress, Captain H A Traill OBE RN, reading in his cabin on 23 April 1944. The Empress had just taken part in an attack on the Tirpitz and was about to join an attack on a German convoy in Norwegian waters.
