HMS Exeter and US Destroyers, 1934, Panama

This picture shows the British cruiser HMS Exeter amongst a group of Clemsen class destroyers, and two of their support ships. From front to back we start with a group containing USS Zane (DD-337), an unknown destroyer and the destroyer depot ship USS Melville (AR-2). Next is the fleet repair ship USS Medusa (AR-1). Just off line are two more Clemsen class destroyers, with USS Litchfield (DD-336) in front. Next comes HMS Exeter (marked with a tick). Finally in the background are two more destroyers, with USS Truxten (DD-229) in front. The picture was taken at Balboa Harbor in the Panama Canal Zone on 24 April 1934.

The original is catalogue number NH 60813 in the Naval History and Heritage Command collection.
