Crew on HMS Hero sharpening Cutlass blades, 1942

Here we see two crewmen on the H class destroyer HMS Hero cleaning and sharpening the Navy's 1900 Pattern Cutlass, while she was on her way from Alexandria to Haifa on 5 May 1942. By the time this picture was taken the cutlass had been withdrawn from combat use, but twenty were issued to each ship for ceremonial duties.
