Plans of Canopus Class Battleships

Plans of Canopus Class Battleships
These plans show the Canopus class battleships, a variation on the large Majestic class that used Krupp armour to reduce weight while keeping almost the same level of protection as the early ships. As a result they were some 2,000 tons lighter. They were armed with four 12in guns in twin turrets fore and aft, twelve 6in guns (six on each side, with four on the level below the main guns and two on the main gun level) and ten 12-pounders , mainly on the same level as the main guns. As the side-elevation shows, this meant that their gun decks rather resembled those of the wooden ship of the line!
