This volume in the Aircraft of the Aces series looks at the P-40 Warhawk in its most consistently successful theatre of the war – China, Burma and India. It starts with the volunteers of the American Volunteer Group – the famous Flying Tigers – and their Tomahawks. It concentrates mainly on the story of the P-40 in China, first with the AVG and later with the USAAF, but also includes a section on the P-40 over India and Burma. There is also an interesting section on the Chinese American Combat Wing (CACW), a unit formed from Chinese pilots and jointly officered by Chinese and Americans at every level.
This book reminds us that the much maligned P-40 Warhawk was capable of holding its own against some of the best Japanese aircraft when used well.Author: Carl Molesworth
